Charaplast Missions

Vietnam

Charaplast has been working in DaNang, Vietnam for 2 years now. Our latest mission was to DaNang, Vietnam in March, 2008. There were 10 Polish doctors and 1 nurse. The mission was to serve the pediatrics ward of DaNang General hospital and the DaNang orthopedic hospital. Eight pediatricians of various specialties spent 9 days training and teaching Vietnamese doctors. They also conducted 20 surgeries treating various conditions and ailments. Three other surgeons worked at the orthopedic hospital teaching, training and also conducting various surgeries.

Charaplast secured donated medical equipment from the USA where it was collected ans shipped to DaNang, Vietnam and distributed to the hospitals. The equipmentranged from small supplies to large scale equipment used in the operating rooms. Thanks to all those donors, many people in Vietnam now benefit greatly.

Cambodia

Charaplast found an organization of surgeons who perform Cleft lip and Cleft pallette surgeries in developing world countries (Operation Smile). Charaplast found the location and worked with the government to allow to pave the way for Operation Smile to perform their work.

Medical equipment was donated in the USA where it was collected and sent to Cambodia. All types of medical equipment from Bandagages, to surgical instruments to
major operating room equipment. Training was also provided to teach how to use equipment. A mobile dental unit was provided to reach the people in the outer provinces.

Overall, Operation Smile conducted 160 cleft lip or cleft pallette surgeries in 5 days. They have continued to come to Cambodia every year since and have developed a relationship with the hospital in Phnom Penh.
